Vaillant Aluminium Heat Exchanger

Vaillant have now started making boilers with Aluminium/Silicon heat exchanger's, initially launched on the regular (400 series) range of open vented appliances in 2016. They have proved very popular with customers and are now found in ecoFIT, Sustain and Home boiler models.
These heat exchangers tend be compact, lightweight, have large waterways being more tolerant to variable system quality (e.g. flow rate settings, air and dirt) less noisy and cheaper than Stainless Steel Heat exchangers.
Boilers housing Aluminium heat exchangers are usually installed in tight spaces ( e.g. kitchen wall cupboards) and are generally a bit more tricky to service, the burner door seal must be replaced every time the burner chamber is opened and system water pH checks are needed to make sure it's slightly alkaline.
WHAT WE DO?

Common Vaillant faults codes found on Boilers.

No pressure change when pump starts

I find this crops up due to lack of a proper boiler service. The boiler software will be looking for a 0.2 bar increase when the pump is active. If the increase is not registered then after 3 attempts to start the boiler throws up F75.
Main components to check are the pump which could be defective.
The water pressure sensor which could have debris blocking the orifice and not sensing the increase in pressure.
The expansion vessel in a sealed system is a major component and it is vitally important to ensure that it is correctly charged and sized for the system.
Blockage within the boiler, This fault is more likely to happen in older versions of the Vaillant Ecotec range (models built before 2010), where they were previously manufactured with rubber hose sections on the Flow and Return pipes. The rubber in these pipes tends to attract magnetite build up far quicker than copper pipework and could become blocked, meaning the pump is unable to push water through them.

Safety switch-off: low water pressure

This fault is very common where a modern boiler has been installed and connected to a older heating system.
If you have a leak on your system the reading on the boiler pressure gauge will start fall . The pressure sensor should notice that the system pressure has dropped below 0.5 bar and display an F22 fault code.
Small leaks on radiator valves can be a culprit especially when turned on for the winter, they can over a short period of days throw up F22.
The boiler diverter valve has a known issue, especially on dirty system, of leaking. Water collects and fills the drip tray, with dripping from the seams of the base of the boiler.
If you have a leak some where on the system or boiler, you may be tempted to fill the system back constantly to keep the boiler working. This is possibly the worst thing to do to your boiler. You'll be introducing all the impurities and more oxygen into the system, helping rust and sludge to form, diluting any multi metal inhibitor that has managed to stay in the system.

Ignition Failure

Insufficient Inlet Working Gas Pressure To The Appliance.
Flue Problem or Bad Earth Connection.
Debris Within The Heat Engine (Burner Etc).
Electrode Or Ignition Lead Fault or Bad Earth Connection.
Spark Generator Fault.
Incorrect Gas Valve Adjustment or Faulty Gas Valve.
